On Sunday, November 3, 2013 ATΩ Delta Kappa hosted our first annual Signature Event. Our signature event is the "ATΩ 5K and Spooky Sprint." We worked from the ground up to make this event a reality. As early as March of 2013, we began brainstorming ideas for what type of event to host. We decided to program an official sanctioned 5-Kilometer race and a "fun-run" for kids in surrounding elementary schools. The proceeds of the event benefitted C.A.S.P. (Community After School Program), a non-profit organization that provides after school care for over 650 children in all 17 Norman elementary schools.
The event was focused entirely on the kids. We had a fun run with several different stops where kids can trick-or-treat for candy as they race. The Spooky Sprint was followed by a carnival in which kids could play over a dozen carnival games, try to dunk ATΩ members in a dunk tank, paint a pumpkin, or get their face paint and balloon hats. We even had a costume contest in which sponsors of our event judged the best costumes (the male winner is pictured above: spaghetti and meatballs costume). Will Moon '11 acted as the leader of our event, overseeing all programming, sponsorship, and publicity efforts; we are grateful for his hard work. We hope to continue this 5K as our signature event for countless years down the road.
